Tesla Solar Roof is coming on the market soon
You have probably heard about solar energy and batteries integrated into houses’ roofs. The sun provides 100% clean and free energy, which everyone can capture and utilize. It is relatively new technology, available on the market for more than decade. The main disadvantage of current solar roof panels is their appearance. They look bulky and metallic, usually never meshes with the overall design of the house. Keeping in mind that those panels are additions to roofs and need to be purchased and installed separately of the roof, it is usually costly.
In order to solve this problem and make solar roof panels more popular and affordable, Elon Musk and Tesla created Tesla’s Solar Roof. In late 2016, they created roof tiles, which are made of glass with photo-voltaic substrate. These tiles are designed to allow the integrated solar cell to capture the sun’s rays and turn it to electricity at a highly efficient rate. Unlike regular solar panels, they are actually roofing material and look like real roof from the side. Tesla introduced four styles of the solar tiles they going to manufacture: smooth glass, textured glass, Tuscan glass, and slate glass. There is no official pricing released at the moment, but Tesla claims their product will be more affordable than regular asphalt roof. In addition, the recent tests showed Tesla Solar Roof tiles are much more durable and stronger than other types of roofs.
These are the main benefits of Solar Roof that Tesla states on its website:
1. Lower your electric bill.
2. Increase the value of your home.
3. Reduce your carbon footprint.
The latest news revealed that Tesla’s Solar Roof tiles will be produced at Panasonic’s production plant in Buffalo, New York. Moreover, we now know that they are planning to launch the production in mid 2017.
